Lichess free online chess
Play a timed game, then train tactics or read a position on the analysis board.
Four ways to use the board
Kingside is not lichess.org. It covers the same jobs people open Lichess for: a game, a puzzle, an analysis board, and a position editor. The official server is free, libre, and without ads, and its source is public.
Lichess and Chess.com rate different pools
Neither site publishes an official conversion. The comparison lists price, puzzles, analysis, and what a rating number does and does not mean.
Questions
Is this the official Lichess site?
No. Kingside is an independent chess board. Lichess is the free, libre, no-ads chess server at lichess.org. Sign-in for that site stays on lichess.org. This page never asks for a Lichess password.
Can I play without an account?
Yes. Games, puzzles, analysis, the editor, and PGN replay all run in your browser. A puzzle score and your theme choice are stored on this device.
Which chess rules does the board use?
Standard chess: castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate, threefold repetition, the fifty-move rule, and insufficient material. A chessboard has 64 squares and each side starts with 16 pieces.
Is the analysis the same engine Lichess uses?
No. Lichess analysis runs Stockfish. The search on this site is a smaller local engine for practice, so treat the eval as a hint rather than a master-level line.
